Carers Week is Here

5th June marks the start of Carers Week 2023 and the theme this year is 'Recognising and Supporting Carers in the Community'.

Unpaid carers make a huge contribution to society and we believe that this should be recognised throughout the community. Everyone has a role to play in raising awareness of caring and making sure carers are able to access the information and support they need.

During Carers Week we will be holding a series of events to both support and raise awareness of unpaid carers and the incredible work they do.

Monday

  • On Monday 5th June at 2pm we are inviting carers to join us for an online Relaxation Session with Simone from the Soul Work Studio. Simone provides mindfully, soul soothing meditation sessions, where carers can take time to themselves to just be! Get in touch to book onto this session.

Tuesday

  • On Tuesday 6th June we will be hosting an information stall at Morrisons in Whitehaven from 10am to 4pm. If you want to know more about supporting carers, or are a carer yourself needing some help, please call in to have a chat with us.

Wednesday

  • On Wednesday 7th June we will be having a coffee morning, between 10am & 1pm, at our office in Cockermouth. If you are in the area we’d love to see you, call in and enjoy a cuppa, cake and craic with us.

  • Also on 7th we will also be hosting an information stall, this time at Morrisons in Workington. You’ll be able to call into the store to see us between 10am and 4pm.

  • If you want to get involved and find out how to recognise and support carers in your community you could attend our virtual Carers Champion training. Carer champions work in their local community by raising awareness of Carer Support organisations such as ours and the support available to unpaid carers. The session is taking place via Teams at 1pm on 7th June and you can book via Eventbrite.

Thursday

  • On Thursday 8th you can visit our Information Stand at West Cumberland Hospital from 12noon until 4pm. We will be setup at the old main entrance where you can have a chat with some of our team and find out more about the organisation, what it does and the services that we offer for carers.

Angela Longrigg, CEO, says:

It’s Carers Week 2023; the nationally recognised week that gives us the opportunity to let everyone know how important unpaid carers are to their families, friends and communities.
I, together with all the staff here at Carer Support West Cumbria, would like to say a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to all our wonderful Carers across West Cumbria – you are doing an amazing job and we applaud you!
If you are able, we would love to see you at one or more of the events we are running throughout the week. Please come along and have a chat with our fantastic staff team and trustees.

A message from the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Linda Hewitt

On behalf of the Board of Trustees I would like to take the opportunity of Carers Week 2023 to say a massive ‘Thank You’ to all managers, staff and volunteers who provide outstanding support to unpaid Carers across West Cumbria.
To those in receipt of that care, as a Board, we will strive to ensure the organisation goes from strength to strength, ensuring the support you need and deserve both now, and long into the future.
